Point at it, and it goes

Rubbish removal is the simplest thing we do and the thing people put off the longest, usually because they are imagining the hassle of a skip. There is no hassle. We turn up, we carry it out from wherever it is sitting, we load it, we sweep up and we drive away. The whole visit is usually under an hour.

It does not need to be bagged, sorted, moved to the front or piled up ready. Leave it in the back bedroom, in the shed, down the side of the house or halfway up the garden. Carrying it is the job we are being paid for.

Why this usually beats a skip

  • No permit. A skip on the road in Birmingham needs a council permit and often a parking bay suspension on top. We park, load and go.
  • No waiting. A skip has to be delivered, filled by you, then collected. That is days. We are usually in and out inside an hour or two.
  • You do not lift anything. With a skip, every single item is your job to carry. That is the part people underestimate.
  • Nobody else can fill it. Leave a skip out overnight and half the street contributes. You pay for their rubbish.
  • Full comparison of skip hire against a man and van, including when a skip genuinely is the better call.
  • You pay for what you use. Half a skip costs the same as a full one. Half a van does not.

How much fits in the van

Everyone measures rubbish differently, which is why quotes are so hard to compare. Here is the translation. A Luton van holds roughly 20 cubic yards, which is near enough three builders skips, or somewhere around 170 bin bags if you filled it with bagged waste.

  • Single item. One sofa, one mattress, one fridge.
  • Quarter load. About 4 cubic yards. Roughly 35 bin bags, or a midi skip. A small bedroom cleared out.
  • Half load. About 8 cubic yards. Roughly 70 bin bags, or a large builders skip. A typical single garage.
  • Full load. Around 20 cubic yards. A one bedroom flat, or a double garage that has not been opened in years.

If you are between two of those, describe it to us and send a photo. Full price guide here.

What we can take

  • Sofas, armchairs, beds, mattresses and divans
  • Wardrobes, chests of drawers, tables and chairs
  • Fridges, freezers, washing machines, cookers and dishwashers
  • TVs, computers, monitors and small electricals
  • Carpets, underlay, laminate and vinyl flooring
  • Bagged household waste, boxes and general clutter
  • Garden waste, turf, soil, hedge cuttings and branches
  • Sheds, decking, fence panels and greenhouses
  • Timber, plasterboard, bagged rubble and strip out waste
  • Office furniture, filing cabinets and shop fit outs

What we cannot take

Asbestos in any form, paint tins, oils, solvents and chemicals, gas bottles, fuel cans, clinical or medical waste, and tyres. These need a different licence and a different disposal route. Ring us anyway and we will point you at the right place, it costs you nothing to ask.

The bit most companies never mention

Under the Environmental Protection Act you have a household duty of care for your own waste. In plain English: if you hand your rubbish to somebody who fly tips it, and the council traces it back to you, you get the fixed penalty, not them. Birmingham enforces this and has taken fly tippers to court.

So before you let anyone load a van, ask for two things. Their waste carrier registration number, which you can check free on the Environment Agency register in about thirty seconds. And a waste transfer note for your job, which is the receipt proving where your waste went.

We are a registered waste carrier and we issue a transfer note for every single job, without being asked. If you are a landlord, an agent or a business, keep it. If you are a householder, it is still worth having.

A quick sanity check

If somebody quotes you a price that seems far too good, ask where the waste is going and what the tip fees are. Tipping costs real money. A price that does not cover it usually means the load is going into a lay by somewhere, with your name still on the envelopes inside it.

Questions

Rubbish removal questions

Can you come out today?

Often, yes. We keep slots free for same day work because most rubbish removal calls are urgent. Message a photo in the morning and there is a good chance we are there that afternoon. If we cannot make today we will tell you straight rather than stringing you along.

Do you charge by the hour or by the load?

By the load. Hourly pricing punishes you for a difficult driveway or a slow lift, and it means you have no idea what the bill will be until we finish. We agree a fixed price for the job before we start.

What if there is more than we thought?

We will tell you before we load it, not after. If the pile is genuinely bigger than the photos showed we will give you a revised price and you decide. Nobody gets a surprise invoice.

Where does my rubbish actually go?

To a licensed waste transfer station where it is sorted and as much as possible is recycled. Timber, metal, cardboard, green waste and rubble all have their own routes. You get a waste transfer note showing the chain.

Will you clear fly tipping from my property?

Yes. If somebody has dumped on your land, your driveway or your car park, we will clear it. This is common work for landlords, letting agents and site managers, and we can invoice a business properly. There is a full page on fly tipping removal covering who is liable and what to do before you move anything.

Do you take cash?

Cash or bank transfer, whichever suits. For business jobs we can invoice.

Still sat there, is it?

Send one photo. We will tell you the price and when we can be there.
